BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BARANGAY
Barangay Canayonan is located at southern part of Tinambac proper. It is [7km] kilometer away from the provincial road in sitio Hubo Bolao Balite, Tinambac. During the Spanish Era, this place was known of having plenty of “baul” or “anayon” (sow) with many piglets. So the place was named” Caanayonan” by the founder Mr. Arturo Perillo who belonged to the elite group In the place of “Puderoso”, as the local folks called it.
Formerly, this place was just a sitio of neiboring barangay Bolao Balite. People or families would come to migrate in this place and became residents of Canayonan. Kaingin was the first way of living of the people in this place. Later, palay and abaca become the main source of their livelihood.
As timed passed by, the place established its own autonomy and the name “Caanayonan” was changed to CANAYONAN which believed to be the product of wrong pronunciation.
During that time, barangay Canayonan has a few households. At present, it has 354 households, 375 families with 1,850 total numbers of populations (946 male and 904 female). It is presented by seven (7) zones: zone 1 – sitio Tipon-tipon; zone 2 – sitio Kawayan; zone 3 – Poblacion Ilawod; zone 4 – other side of Ilawod; zone 5 – sitio Pinaasa; zone 6 – sitio Kasiguran; zone 7 – Poblacion Iraya.
Barangay Canayonan developed through the leadership of the different people who became the head of the place. Mr. Demenciano Ballaran was the first Cabeza de barangay followed by Mr. Arturo Perillo and Mr. Elioterio Sagales afterwards.
The title CABEZA DE BARANGAY was changedto Barangay Captain and it was first handled by Mr. Felix Abrazado in 1965-1971. The second Barangay Captain was Mr. Publio Azur Lopez in 1977-1989, Mr. Jacinto Azur Villareal in 1989-1993, Mr. Victorino L. Realizan in 1993-2007 and presently headed Mrs. Margarita G. Realizan.
Mrs. Margarita G. Realizan, the successor of her husband Mr. Victorino L. Realizan won her third term as Punong Barangay on October 28, 2013 barangay election. Barangay Canayonan continues to develop. Part of the development was through the help of the different political figure.
