BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BARANGAY
Barangay Sogod is situated in the northwestern part of Tinambac Poblacion. It is bounded on the north and east by Lupi River, on the west by San Miguel Bay, and on the south by Salvacion Poblacion and San Pascual. Barangay Sogod has a total land area of 48.5813 hectares and it is composed of 7 zones.
Population estimates based on 2010 census of population using ratio and proportion method for use of the DOH and local government health units per Department Circular No.2011-0138-A (dated February 03, 2012) is 3,623. The average growth rate is 3.7%. Sogod has an average household size of 5.3.
The sex ratio of the barangay is 108:100 or 51.95% male and 48.05% female. The male population exceeds the female population by only 109. In terms of age structure, the population is predominantly young with almost 45% aged 1-14 years old and 25% aged 15-29% years old. The 30-39 years old bracket comprises 10%of the population. The reast of population 40 years old and over is around 20% of the total population. With this kind of age structure, we can predict a higher growth rate for the next decade especially if population control measures are not instituted. On the other hand, available man power will increase dramatically for the same period. This situation will put a strain on the food security of the area as more food will be needed by the growing population coupled with the reduction of areas devoted to food production and other purposes such as residential and industrial.
The main source of livelihood and household income in barangay is fishing. Almost 75% of the household head derived their living from fishing. Only about 15% are engaged in labor and commerce and 10% derived their income from employment both in the government and private agencies. The average household income in the barangay is P4,000.00 to P5,000.00.
VISION
Barangay Sogod is a peaceful and prosperous place with God-fearing, healthy, industrious, happy and cooperative constituents who are united together for a common purpose of attaining food sufficiency and a clean environment under the system of a democratic, fair and human leadership that shall ultimately result in a better quality of life of the people.
Sogod is an ideal place to deal and dwell.
MISSION
Sogod shall vigorously work for the unity and cooperation among the barangay residents in the attainment of peace harmony and progress, where the delivery of basic social service is improved; infrastructure facilities are enhanced; the peoples capacity to manage their own resources and organization is strengthened; and stronger coordination and linkages with different agencies of the government and the private sector is fostered.
