BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BARANGAY

Tierra Nevada is one of the biggest barangay at situated near the foot of mount Isarog. According to the oral sources this Barrio was known formerly by the people as TOREL or “Tinorilan” due to the presence of fenced and enclosed areas for animals, a written account narrated that a certain foreigner by the name of Don Jose Wichangco made a cattle ranch in this place upon knowing that the people are honest.

The place was later discovered  by a Spaniard who started farming crops and renamed the place from “Tinorilan” to “Tierra Nevada” for its cool breeze and good soil.

 The Barrio was established in 1894 by the late SESANDO SABATER who donated the site of the present TIERRA NEVADA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. The first in habitants of the barrio came from Goa, Tinambac, Lagonoy, Nabua, Iriga.

During the Philippine revolution the pueblos of Goa, Sangay San Jose, Baao Nabua ang Iriga took an active part in the revolt against the abuses of the Spanish authorities, rebels have settled their established groups in “Tinorilan”.

Before the inauguration of the Philippine commonwealth in November 15.1935 the barrio was still called by its former name.

The barrio was not spared from Japanese occupation. In that several person were tortured and killed by Japanese soldiers. The Japanese Army used as its headquarters. The Barrio school building, but when the guerillas discovered it is the school building was burned.

With the guidelines and blessing of the Almighty God, Barangay Tierra Nevada, shall render basic services create harmonies relationship develop the people socially, mentally, physically, and spiritually, have transparency in its program with information dissemination towards in productive, progressive Barangay.
